‘They know.’ CMPD says someone has info on 2nd suspect in Brooks murder case
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police says the public has come forward with “tons of information” but they’re still searching for a second person they believe was involved in the killing of Scott Allen Brooks.
Brooks, the 61-year-old beloved co-owner of Brooks’ Sandwich House in NoDa, was gunned down early in the morning on Dec. 9 as he arrived to prepare the restaurant for the day.
On Wednesday, CMPD made its first arrest in the case. On Thursday, a department leader said he believes more than one person has information about a second suspect who was there the day Brooks was killed. CMPD officials say they believe robbery was the motive.
Brooks had $100 stolen from him during the fatal robbery, WBTV reported Thursday, citing a CMPD arrest warrant.
“We have some information that there are people who are aware of the identity of this individual,” Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Lt. Bryan Crum said at a news conference at CMPD headquarters. “They know who it is and should be able to come forward and tell us who that is.”
“We continue to get tips and we’re investigating those ... We got tons of information so it was very helpful.”
Officers have charged 33-year-old Terry Conner Jr., with murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, first-degree kidnapping and possession of a firearm by a felon, according to CMPD.
At his first court appearance Thursday, Conner said he was “completely innocent,” WBTV’s Amanda Foster reported.
Foster reported that Conner said during the hearing: “To the victim’s family, I’m sorry for their loss, but I had nothing to do with that.”
At Thursday’s news conference, Crum said Conner “did cooperate when we went out to arrest him, and it was an uneventful arrest. And he did cooperate with us when he was in custody.”
Crum encouraged anyone with information on the person’s whereabouts to call police at 704-432-8477 or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
