Robbery call leads to fatally wounded woman inside parked car in northeast Charlotte

A woman died late Tuesday after being shot in a vehicle parked along West Sugar Creek Road in northeast Charlotte, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.

The victim was identified as Katie Elizabeth Eckerd, 27, CMPD said in an update.

Investigators say a 911 call at 5:10 p.m. reported an armed robbery occurred in the parking lot of a business in the 2800 block of W. Sugar Creek Road, according to a press release.

The block is an area of strip malls between Mallard Creek and Nevin roads not, far from UNC Charlotte.

“When they arrived, they located a female victim in a parked vehicle who had been shot. The victim was transported by MEDIC to the hospital where she was later pronounced deceased,” a release said.

Police have not said if they have a suspect in the case.
