Two more homicides Tuesday brings Charlotte’s death toll to four people in three days
Two more people were killed in Charlotte early Tuesday, bringing the city’s homicide tally to four since Sunday.
Charlotte’s 2020 homicide total is now at 76 people, according to Charlotte Observer data.
The latest of the killings was reported shortly before 2 a.m. Tuesday on Nations Ford Road, near Interstate 77 in south Charlotte, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said in a release.
An officer in the area reported hearing gunfire and found “two adult males with apparent gunshot wounds,” the release said.
“MEDIC transported both victims to the hospital, where one has since been pronounced deceased. The other victim’s injuries were non-life-threatening,” police said.
The name of the victim has not been released and police have not said if they have any suspects.
The incident happened at the City Inn hotel and the man who died was struck by a stray bullet fired during an altercation involving other people, reports the Observer’s news partner WBTV.
That incident followed a stabbing reported at 12:15 a.m. Tuesday near the 6200 block of East W. T. Harris Boulevard in east Charlotte, CMPD reported.
Officers responded to find a a woman with “life-threatening stab wounds.”
“MEDIC transported the victim to the hospital where she was pronounced deceased,” a release said.
The woman was identified in an update as Tyra McRae, 36, CMPD said.
