Armed robbery report leads police to find man shot to death near UNC Charlotte

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said they are investigating a homicide after a man died Monday afternoon following a shooting near the 9100 block of Sandburg Avenue.

The road is off of University Boulevard and across from the UNC Charlotte campus.

Police said they found the man with a gunshot wound after reports of an armed robbery. The man was pronounced dead on the scene and police said they are “not currently looking for any other subjects involved.”

On Tuesday morning, CMPD identified the victim as Michael Philip Bibb, 35.

The death is the 86th homicide of the year. This time last year — which was Charlotte’s worst homicide rate in a decade — there were 69 killings.
