17-year-old dies of gunshot wounds in Charlotte’s 87th homicide of the year

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said on Thursday that a 17-year-old has died from gunshot injuries.

Police said Calvin Washington arrived at Atrium Health in University City with gunshot wounds on Wednesday. He was driven there in a personal vehicle.

Washington succumbed to his injuries and died on Thursday.

Police said preliminary evidence indicates the shooting occurred in the 7400 block of North Tryon Street.

Washington’s death is the 87th homicide of the year. This time last year — one of the worst years for murders in a decade — Charlotte had experienced 75 homicides.

Police encourage anyone with information on the shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
