A man died following a shooting near the 4900 block of Tuckaseegee Road in northwest Charlotte on Monday, police said. It’s the 18th homicide in the city this year.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have not yet released the victim’s identity. Medic pronounced the victim at the scene.

This time last year, the city had experienced 21 homicides.

Police said they responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call around 12:50 p.m. and found the man with a gunshot wound. A SWAT team arrived to look for an armed suspect after witnesses on the scene said the suspect may have been inside a nearby residence.

“At the conclusion of the search, it was determined the suspect was no longer in the residence, and the area was deemed safe,” CMPD said in a news release.

The investigation is ongoing, and police encourage anyone with information about the case to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
