Charlotte man dies after attack in Cotswold, homicide investigation underway
A 60-year-old man who was badly injured in July during an attack in the Cotswold Village area has died. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating Corey Black’s death as a homicide, authorities said Thursday.
Black was found with a head injury in the 4400 block of Randolph Road and hospitalized on July 24, police said. He died of his injuries on Nov. 5.
“The case has transitioned from Providence Division detectives to Homicide Division detectives and is being investigated as a Homicide,” CMPD said.
No arrests have been made. CMPD did not release details on what happened.
According to Black’s obituary, he was born in California and loved spending time with his grandchildren. “He enjoyed photography, reading, drawing and woodworking. He was a family man and loved his cat Nugget,” the obituary says.
In a GoFundMe page started days after Black was hospitalized, friends wrote: “... He was violently attacked while walking. They didn’t take his wallet; it was apparently, a random, senseless act of violence.”
