2 Huntersville teens dead after wreck during chase, tossing alcohol out, police say

Two Huntersville teens died in a car crash Thursday night after speeding away from officers and throwing cans of alcohol out the window, police said.

Officers tried to stop the 2004 red Chevrolet pickup truck as it sped through a 45 mph zone on Oakridge Farm Highway — going 75 mph — at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday, according to a Mooresville Police Department news release. The teens fled onto Highway 801 near Back Creek Church Road, throwing alcoholic beverage cans out the window before the truck rolled into a utility pole, the Salisbury Post reported.

Austin Ryan Davis, 18, was driving the truck with Aiden Daniel Humphries, 16, in the passenger seat, initial investigations found. Both Huntersville teens were pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe alcohol contributed to the crash.
