Man sexually assaulted teen jogging on Charlotte greenway, police say
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating a sexual assault they say occurred on part of the McAlpine Creek Greenway network Friday morning. This is the second assault in about three weeks reported by CMPD.
Shortly after 9:30 a.m. Friday, police said they were called about a sexual assault in the 9500 block of Elm Lane along the greenway. The victim is 15-years-old, officials said.
The teen was jogging when she was approached by a man who was exposing himself. The man then inappropriately touched the girl, police said. CMPD listed the location as on Elm Lane, close to the intersection with Bevington Place.
The stretch of trail in this area is the Four Mile Creek Greenway, which connects to the Lower McAlpine Greenway in south Charlotte.
About two miles away on the greenway, close to Johnston Road, is where CMPD says another sexual assault happened last month.
On July 22, two women in their 60s were walking on the greenway when a man exposed himself to them and sexually assaulted at least one of them around 8:15 a.m., according to police.
CMPD increased its presence on the walkway after this assault and said they will continue to do so after Friday’s incident.
Police say they are looking for a Black man in his 20s who is about 6’ tall and has dreadlocks, according to CMPD. He was last seen wearing a dark colored shirt and gray sweatpants.
So far no arrests have been announced in either case.
