1 killed, 1 wounded by shots fired in Charlotte residential community, CMPD says

Aug. 15, 2024 update: A second person, Devone Javar Walker, 20, was arrested on Wednesday, Aug. 14 on a charge of felony accessory after the fact to first-degree murder, CMPD said in a press release.

One person was killed and a second was wounded by gunfire in a neighborhood off Clanton Road, and Charlotte-Mecklenburg police believe the two cases are connected.

The man who died has been identified as Aaron Remont Thompson, 37, CMPD said.

The shootings occurred around 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, in the 2200 block of Caronia Street. The neighborhood is just west of Clanton Park.

“Officers discovered a male victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. MEDIC pronounced the victim deceased on scene,” CMPD said in a news release.

“Shortly after a second victim arrived at a nearby hospital with non-life threatening gunshot wounds. Detectives are working to determine the relationship between the two victims.”

Detectives arrested Marcus Darel Watson, 25, in connection with the shootings. He has been charged with murder, CMPD said.
