A person was arrested for intentionally setting a north Charlotte residence on fire early Sunday morning, the Charlotte Fire Department said.

Four people were displaced and the fire caused $345,000 in damage to property and peoples’ belongings.

A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police incident report said a person reported at 5:40 a.m. that his home was set on fire.

The fire department said a fire crew responded to multiple calls about a fire near the 7000 block of Somerset Springs Drive at 5:40 a.m., in a social media post. There are condominiums at the address, according to Google Maps.

The crew saw heavy smoke and flames when they arrived within four minutes, the department said. At 5:48 a.m., a second alarm was activated.

Fire crews controlled the fire by 6 a.m., and investigators determined it was intentionally set, the department said. The offense was classified as burglary and breaking and entering, the CMPD incident report said. First and second degree arson were also listed on the incident report.

Observer news partner WSOC reported that no firefighter was injured.

The alleged suspect was injured and treated after being taken into custody. The person’s name has not been released.

The displaced residents are being helped by the American Red Cross, the department said.
