Witness run over in traffic while trying to help child fatally hit by car, NC cops say
A good Samaritan was hit by car while trying to direct traffic around a child and an adult who were struck by a car minutes earlier, according to investigators in North Carolina.
The child died at the scene, Greensboro police said in a news release. The good Samaritan and adult survived, but are hospitalized with serious injuries, police said.
It happened around 10:20 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, on six-lane West Gate City Boulevard in Greensboro, police said. Greensboro is about a 77-mile drive northwest from Raleigh.
“A Hyundai Elantra was traveling east on West Gate City Boulevard and collided with an adult and child attempting to cross the road,” police said.
“A third person who witnessed the collision entered the roadway in an attempt to warn traffic but was then struck by a Nissan Altima that was also traveling east on West Gate City Boulevard.”
Identities of the child and two adults were not released.
The incident remains under investigation, police said.
Maps show the area where the incident occurred is lined with restaurants and stores, including a nearby Walmart.
