CMPD finds person shot, killed in parking lot of Scarborough Center near N Tryon St

Detectives from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are investigating the killing of a woman found Friday morning in the parking lot of the Ella B. Scarborough Center.

Around 10 a.m., police officers responded to the 400 block of Stitt Road after getting a call about an assault with a deadly weapon with injury, according to a CMPD news release. They found the victim with a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene by MEDIC.

Police later released her identity as Brianye Copeland, 27. Police charged Kristopher Anthony Sinclair, 38, with murder.

The police investigation closed the Ella B. Scarborough Center at 430 Stitt Road, according to Mecklenburg County, which runs the health and human services center. Customers were directed to visit the Valerie C. Woodard Community Resource Center, 3205 Freedom Drive, Charlotte.
