‘I lied.’ Charges dropped against NC woman accused of locking boyfriend in storage unit
Prosecutors dismissed attempted first-degree murder and kidnapping charges against a North Carolina woman whose boyfriend accused her of locking him in a storage unit for days, court records show.
The 51-year-old man admitted to Monroe police that he lied about the original tale he spun against 52-year-old Robin Renae Deaton, according to a March 6 affidavit in Union County Superior Court.
WBTV first reported the dismissal.
Deaton was arrested in Charlotte on Feb. 27, accused of slamming the storage unit’s door shut on the man on Feb. 20, police said at the time. “‘This is what you get,’” the man claimed his girlfriend told him after accusing him of cheating on her.
The man told officers that he couldn’t find his phone because the storage unit — located at Cooper Storage, 1950 Old Charlotte Hwy — was a “hoarder’s paradise,” according to a police news release about Deaton’s arrest.
In the March 6 affidavit, the man acknowledged giving differing accounts over the weeks to police and the news media.
“I have not been honest and I lied to law enforcement,” the man said in the affidavit.
The man has not been charged in the case, according to a review of court records by The Charlotte Observer on Wednesday.
Deaton and the man could not be reached for additional comment.
