3 shot in Charlotte, 3 homicide investigations underway, CMPD said

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police homicide unit is investigating three shooting incidents that happened over the past two days, with at least two people dead.

The most recent shooting took place Sunday, May 18, late afternoon in the 1200 block of Spring Street, CMPD said in an alert on X.

The person was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to WSOC, The Observer’s news partner.

No other information about this incident is available.

On Saturday May 17, around 2:40 a.m., officers responded to a call for an assault with a deadly weapon in the 2400 block of Freedom Drive, according to a news release.

Police found one person with gunshot wounds in a parking lot, who was later pronounced dead by MEDIC.

The person has been identified as Najee Pendergrass, 27 and the next of kin has been notified, police said.

Early Sunday, on May 18, shortly after 3 a.m., police arrived at the 100 block of Winding Path Way and discovered a 17-year-old with gunshot wounds, who was pronounced dead on the scene.
