Authorities in Lincoln County and Lincolnton discovered a man’s remains, found last week near a pickup truck believed to be his.

Robert Wolf Jr., a 53-year-old Lincolnton man, was last seen on July 4 at his residence off Little Street, according to a police release.

Wolf’s pickup truck was located by family members at a nearby Food Lion on Stanford Road near East Main Street, which he often visits, police said.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department, in partnership with police, searched a wooded area behind the grocery store on July 16, where a deceased male was located.

Although positive identification is still pending, authorities have tentatively identified the body as Robert Wolf Jr., the release said.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office will continue further investigation because the remains were found outside of Lincolnton City jurisdiction.
