38-year-old man dies in Mecklenburg County Detention Center, sheriff says

A 38-year-old man died at the Mecklenburg County Detention Center around noon on Wednesday.

The man was found unresponsive around 12:06 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office. Medical aid was rendered, but he was pronounced dead at 12:44 p.m. His name and further details surrounding the death have not been released.

“MCSO is devastated to announce the death of a resident who was in our custody and care,” Sheriff Garry McFadden said in a press release. “We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

The State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the death.
