Man arrested in 2022 mass shooting death of North Carolina A&T student
Police on Friday arrested a man in the 2022 killing of N.C A&T State University freshman Kaneycha Turner during a mass shooting in which a 15-year-old also died.
Rishon Elias Weaver, 20, was arrested without incident and charged with first-degree murder, Greensboro police said.
Turner, 19, and Ronaldlee Snipes, 15, were fatally shot in the 900 block of Circle Drive on Oct. 25, 2022. Four others were shot and treated at a local hospital, police said.
Weaver’s arrest is unrelated to the fatal shooting of Snipes, Greensboro TV station WFMY reported, citing police.
The shooting wasn’t on the university campus or during a school-sanctioned event, police said.
“Being able to bring closure and get us to where you’re holding someone accountable is very important,” Assistant Police Chief Rick Alston said at a news conference, WUNC radio reported.
Police released no updates on Saturday.
In a statement on social media, police said the investigation “remains a priority for our department.”
“I’m thankful, I’m happy,” Turner’s mother, Latoya Rucker, told Winston-Salem TV station WXII. “I’m still a little sad because it makes me replay everything, but I’m ecstatic, I’m so grateful.”
