Driver charged after fatally hitting bike rider in Charlotte, police say

A 44-year-old woman accused of fatally hitting a 59-year-old bike rider with her car in northeast Charlotte early Sunday morning was driving on a revoked license, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.

Kesha Latamria Jackson, 44, was charged with driving on a revoked license, failure to register and having no liability insurance after the crash at 2:22 a.m. in the 1600 block of East W.T. Harris Boulevard.

Police accused Jackson of hitting Paul Joseph Rucker, 59, with a Ford Focus from behind while he was riding westbound in the middle of the road on his bike.

There was a 26-year-old passenger in the vehicle at the time of the crash, police said. Neither Jackson nor the passenger were injured.

Jackson was not impaired and speed was not factor, police said. It’s unknown if Rucker was was impaired and a toxicology report is pending, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
