A 25-year-old man was driving the wrong way in traffic when he collided with three vehicles in east Charlotte, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

It happened around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18, in the 1800 block of Eastway Drive, CMPD said in a news release. The area is about three blocks south of Shamrock Drive.

“Upon arrival, officers located a Honda CR-Z with heavy front-end damage. One male subject, Jackie Prophet Jr., 25, was located unresponsive in the vehicle,” police said. “MEDIC ... pronounced Mr. Prophet deceased on scene.”

The other three drivers were not injured. Tests indicated none of the three drivers were impaired, police said.

“The preliminary investigation indicates that Mr. Prophet was driving recklessly on the wrong side of the roadway. This is the contributing factor for this collision,” police said. “Impairment is unknown for Mr. Prophet pending the toxicology report.”

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Detective W. Mercedes at 704-432-2169 ext. 6, CMPD said. Tips can also be offered anonymously through Charlotte Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
