Two die after shots are fired outside Charlotte strip club, CMPD says

Two people have now died as a result of shots fired early Sunday near a north Charlotte strip club, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

The shootings occurred around 4:50 a.m. in the 120 block of Atando Avenue, just off North Tryon Street.

“Upon arrival, officers discovered one victim who had sustained gunshot wounds. The individual was transported by MEDIC to a local hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries,” CMPD said in a news release.

“Nearby, another victim was found who had also sustained gunshot wounds and had crashed their car nearby. This individual was transported by MEDIC to a local hospital with life-threatening-injuries.”

The wounded person died at the hospital, police said in an update.

CMPD identified the two men as 29-year-old D’andre Weaver and 44-year-old Glenntavis McCorey.

Investigators remained on scene later in the morning speaking with witnesses and collecting evidence.

“Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-8477 (TIPS) and speak directly to a Homicide Unit detective,” CMPD said. “The public can also leave information anonymously by calling Charlotte Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.”

Four killings have been investigated by CMPD in the 100 and 200 block of Atando Avenue since 2023.

At 2:45 a.m. on April 29, 2023, a man was found “with traumatic injuries” and he died at a hospital, CMPD reported in a news release. A suspect was arrested on May 1 and charged with first degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, officials said.

A man was fatally shot and a second man injured in the same area in September.
