Man walking along North Tryon Street killed in hit-and-run crash, CMPD says
A man found dead along North Tryon Street near uptown was the victim of a hit-and-run driver, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Howard Charles Pomnitz III, 56, died around 5:45 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, in the 1200 block, about three blocks north of Interstate 277, police said.
“The vehicle that struck Mr. Pomnitz, a black Chevrolet Cruze, was last seen traveling north on North Tryon Street,” CMPD said.
“Speed did not appear to be a factor for the vehicle involved in the crash, and it is unknown if impairment was a factor for the driver. ... It is also unknown if impairment was a factor for Mr. Pomnitz. Toxicology results are pending.”
The 1200 block of North Tryon is a commercial strip lined with auto repair shops, storage facilities and the Roof Above shelter for men.
