A person found dead at a west Charlotte park Thursday morning was shot, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said in a press release.

The person, found at 8:16 a.m. in the 4800 block of Tuckaseegee Road with a gunshot wound, was pronounced dead by MEDIC.

CMPD Maj. Michael Anderson said the call was about an individual lying unresponsive on the ground. Police have not yet named the victim.

The crime scene was near the Tuckaseegee Recreation Center, with the park behind the building taped off. Police vehicles were parked near a football field and a CMPD investigator appeared to be using a metal detector at the scene.
