Domestic dispute between mother, son led to Charlotte police standoff
A police standoff at an apartment complex in east Charlotte on Wednesday stemmed from a domestic dispute involving a man who lives with his mother, according to court records.
Police responded to a call from the man’s mother at an apartment on Fairmarket Place, and she said she wanted her son removed from her home, an affidavit said. Police informed her it was his legal residence and she couldn’t force him to leave.
Officers spoke to the son, 42, who was “visibly upset,” the affidavit said. He accused his mother of frequently getting upset with him and calling the police. The son was asked if he had somewhere else to go until things calmed down, but he said he wouldn’t leave since he lived there.
Police were called back after a short time to a report that the son was walking around with a shotgun. The mother told police her son pointed a gun at her and threatened to shoot her.
The son was back in the residence when police arrived. He briefly came back out and then went back inside when officers approached, the affidavit said.
The standoff was resolved peacefully, and he now faces charges that include possession of a stolen firearm and assault by pointing a gun.
