Forsyth County sheriff’s deputy dies on duty. A memorial stands outside office
A Forsyth County sheriff’s deputy died in a crash Saturday morning, the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post.
Deputy Kaleb Mitchell died in the line of duty.
“What greater love than a man’s service for his community? Willing to lay down his life for others. We serve. We serve. We serve,” Sheriff Bobby Kimbough Jr. said in the post.
The sheriff’s office placed a memorial outside its building at 301 North Church Street in Winston-Salem and welcomed community members to stop by and pay their respects.
“We ask for prayers from the community for his family, as well as the FCSO family,” the Facebook post said.
The sheriff’s office will share more information about the crash as it becomes available.
Law enforcement agencies and officials across the state offered their condolences.
Gov. Josh Stein said he called Kimbrough to pledge “whatever support he and his team may need.”
The chaplain for the King Police Department, where Mitchell and his brother served before Mitchell became a deputy, offered thoughts and prayers in a Facebook post.
Mitchell graduated from basic law enforcement training at Forsyth Tech Community College in 2021 and received the top driver award in his class, according to the City of King.
