Man who died after days in Charlotte hospital is now a homicide case, CMPD says

A man’s three-day-long fight to recover from a gunshot wound has ended with him becoming Charlotte’s latest homicide victim, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

Luis Daniel Gutierrez Mora, 31, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital on Tuesday, CMPD said in a March 25 news release.

He was found critically injured around 2 a.m. Sunday, when police responded to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon in the 5800 block of Albemarle Road. The block intersects Central Avenue in east Charlotte, maps show.

On March, 25, CMPD announced Angelvis Jesus Quintero Fernandez, 22, and Anthony Jose Ruiz-Polanco, 33, have been arrested in connection with the shooting and charged with first degree murder and felony conspiracy.

Investigators have not released details of a motive in the shooting.

“Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-8477 (TIPS) and speak directly to a Homicide Unit detective,” CMPD said.

“The public can also leave information anonymously by calling Charlotte Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.”
