Charlotte-Mecklenburg police investigating man’s death at home on The Plaza
Police are investigating after a man was found dead in an east Charlotte home on Wednesday afternoon, according to a major at the scene.
Maj. Brad Koch said it wasn’t immediately clear if the man died by homicide, and said police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the man’s death at the home in the 6900 block of The Plaza.
Police visited the home three times since Tuesday night, Koch said. An initial call was about a missing person at the home. The second time, police attempted to locate the man in the overnight hours, Koch said. At noon Wednesday, officers located the man dead inside the home.
“Through the use of technology, we were able to determine that the victim’s phone was in this vicinity,” Koch said. “Which brought officers as well as the family back out to do a more thorough search inside the residence where we did locate him inside.”
Koch did not identify the man, but said it’s believed he lived at the home.
Police vehicles took over the driveway at the property on Wednesday. A crime scene investigation van was parked near the home’s backyard. Officers were seen speaking to people in the front yard.
Neighbors around the corner from the crime scene said they were shocked to see police in the area. Not only because it’s a quiet neighborhood, Sui Par said, but because they didn’t hear any sirens or see any flashing lights.
Par, who lives with her son, Nai Sang, 21, said they didn’t hear any disturbances in the area the night before. The neighborhood is safe and quiet, Sang said, and they never had problems with the neighbor who lived at the home where the man died.
“We hear fireworks sometimes at night,” Sang said. “We don’t hear other stuff like crime ... it’s pretty safe.”
