Details remain murky after CMPD officer is involved in overnight crash

Details in a crash involving a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police cruiser early Tuesday morning remain murky after the police department declined to answer questions.

CMPD said in an alert at 6:12 a.m. that the crash occurred near the intersection of Carmel Road and Pineville-Matthews Road.

The department didn’t say how many people were involved. All, including a CMPD officer, were taken to a hospital.

The CMPD officer involved was released from the hospital, according to an unsigned CMPD public affairs email sent in response to questions for this story.

The department declined to say what led to the crash.

Police did not release the names of the officer or anyone else involved in the crash. No arrests or charges have been announced.
