CMPD say south Charlotte fatal shooting was justified, no one to be charged

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said a fatal shooting in April in south Charlotte was justified and no one will be charged, according to a news release Tuesday.

The Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s office declined to bring charges after consulting with CMPD about the homicide, which occurred on April 15 in the 7200 block of Forest Point Boulevard.

CMPD previously said in a news release that officers found three people with gunshots at the scene. A police incident report said the shooting occurred inside an apartment and that officers were responding to an assault with a deadly weapon call.

All three were taken to the hospital, but one of the people, later identified as Gregory Scott, 39, died. Police have not released the names the other two people.

Police have not said what led to the shooting or why no one was charged. The department declined to provide more information about the incident Tuesday.

Eight homicides were justified in 2025, according to CMPD data.
