Autopsy reveals body found just north of uptown is a homicide case, CMPD says

An autopsy has revealed a body discovered Friday evening on North Popular Street was the victim in a homicide, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

The person’s name has not been released.

Investigators say the body was discovered around 6:45 p.m. Friday, May 22, in the 900 block of North Popular street, which is about one block north of Interstate 277.

“At the time, this incident was classified as a death investigation,” CMPD said in a May 26 news release.

“Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search (CCS) responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. ... On Tuesday, May 26, the autopsy report determined the manner of death was homicide.”

Details of how the person died have not been released.
