I ‘saw the tape.’ Charlotte neighbors discuss stabbing at Third Ward apartment parking lot
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers are investigating a fatal stabbing in the Third Ward neighborhood Wednesday morning, according to a press release.
Police responded to the 1000 block of Sycamore Green Place at 6:42 a.m., where a person was found dead with a stab wound in an apartment parking lot, the press release said.
Tanya Gresham, who lives in the apartment complex, was walking her dog Wednesday morning as police took down crime scene tape that had blocked off a vehicle covered in blood.
Gresham said fire alarms kept going off around 11 p.m., and then the Charlotte Fire Department arrived shortly after.
She didn’t smell smoke, but went outside to figure out why the alarm kept going off. She heard from another neighbor that someone kept pulling the alarm.
She and her husband heard some commotion around 1 a.m. again, but figured people were just outside talking.
No trouble at complex before
Jerrilyn Sanders, another neighbor, said she wasn’t aware there was a crime scene outside of her apartment until a friend called her.
“My friend called me and said ‘Somebody got killed over there in that apartment,’” Sanders said. “I look out the window and saw the tape.”
She thought it must have been related to the fire trucks that came to the complex Tuesday night. She didn’t hear any commotion or screaming, she said. There’s never been an issue at the complex.
“It’s a pretty good apartment complex,” Sanders said.
Shortly after, a tow truck arrived and took away a silver vehicle with a tarp taped over the driver and passenger windows.
Police had not yet released the name of the victim.
