Three people shot in uptown Charlotte. A 15-year-old is charged, CMPD says
Two teens and an adult were shot during an “incident” in uptown Charlotte’s First Ward, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.
It happened around 5:20 p.m. Wednesday in the 500 block of North Davidson Street, and one of the wounded teens is a suspect, CMPD said.
“Upon arrival, officers located one juvenile victim who had sustained gunshot wounds and was transported to a hospital,” CMPD said in a June 17 social media alert.
“A short time later an adult victim and juvenile victim arrived at a nearby hospital with gunshot wounds. Upon investigation, officers determined all three victims were from the same incident and obtained probable cause to charge one of the injured juveniles.”
The 15-year-old suspect has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon/inflicting serious injury, possession of a handgun by a minor, and discharging a firearm in the city limits, officials said.
“The juvenile is currently in custody while receiving medical care. The Department of Juvenile Justice has approved a petition for a Secure Custody Order for the juvenile,” police said.
Details of a motive have not been released.
It marks the second instance of gun violence in uptown this week. On Sunday, June 14, two people were wounded by shots fired near Romare Bearden Park, CMPD said. Two arrests have been made in that case, CMPD says. The two wounded people are expected to recover, police said.
