Woman fatally shot in Pineville; suspect is hospitalized
A 54-year-old woman was fatally shot in Pineville late Monday, police said.
Police found Lorene Potter Simpson dead in a home in the 100 block of Olive Street after responding within a minute to a 911 call about a shooting in the home. The shooting happened about 10:10 p.m.
Police said the suspect was still in the home when they arrived. He suffered self-inflicted injuries and was taken to a hospital, where he remained in stable condition Tuesday morning, police said.
Police said Simpson knew the man, and the shooting was not random.
The nature of the relationship between Simpson and the suspect “remains open and ongoing, and his name won’t be released at this time pending further investigation and the outcome of his injuries,” police said in a media release. Charges are pending, police said.
Anyone with information about the case or who saw anything in the area during the time of the shooting is asked to call Pineville Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division at 704-889-2231.
