Hopewell High’s new principal is moving from another Charlotte-Mecklenburg high school, but you won’t have seen her at football games and such.
Tracey Pickard, who takes over a 1,600-student neighborhood high school in Huntersville, has been principal of the CMS Virtual High School (formerly known as eLearning Academy) since 2016. Last year it served about 250 students, who could do all or most of their work online. Before that Pickard was principal at Performance Learning Center and Hawthorne Innovative Cooperative High, both small opt-in high schools in CMS.
Pickard replaces John Gisiano, who resigned in August after leading Hopewell for 4 1/2 years. The school has been led by a retired principal serving as interim.
