Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools will start on a two-hour delay Friday, as the county continues to recover from winter weather hitting the area Saturday and Sunday.

A winter storm brought a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain that started Saturday evening and continued Sunday, coating roadways and sidewalks. Temperatures have remained cold since, and there’s a chance of several inches of snow this weekend, with windchill reaching as low as four degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

“School start times and bus pickups will begin two hours later than usual,” a CMS spokesperson said Thursday afternoon. “All before‑school programs (BSEP) will also operate on a two‑hour delay. After‑school programs (ASEP) will operate on a normal schedule and all school-based and Community Use of Schools activities must conclude by 7 PM.”

CMS is also moving all varsity sporting events up to 5 p.m. Friday, due to the possibility of inclement weather in the evening. Junior varsity events are canceled.

All CMS weekend events over the weekend are canceled on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.
