Charlotte airport nabs new routes to Detroit and a top spring break destination
Frontier Airlines began nonstop flights Friday from Charlotte to popular spring break destination Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and new service to Detroit will launch on Sunday, the low-cost carrier announced Friday.
Direct service from Charlotte Douglas International Airport to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport will operate three times per week. There will be twice-weekly nonstop flights between Detroit Wayne County Metropolitan Airport and CLT.
The airline is offering promotional fares starting at $29. Additional details are available at flyfrontier.com.
Nicknamed the “Venice of America” because of its large canal system, Fort Lauderdale has a lot of attractions for tourists. The city has more than 20 miles of coastline. Las Olas Boulevard is a popular social and cultural area with shops, art galleries, and dining.
Detroit is renowned for its automotive and music legacy through Motown Records. Some of the many attractions include the Detroit Riverfront and Campus Martius Park, which offers a beach in the summer and an ice rink in the winter, along with a Christmas tree.
Frontier Expands Service in Charlotte
Frontier now provides nonstop service to 15 destinations from Charlotte’s airport. The new routes to Detroit and Fort Lauderdale are among several moves the airline announced this year for CLT.
Frontier also is selling tickets for special flights to New Orleans for Mardi Gras festivities next year. Nonstop service will be offered from Feb. 12 to Feb. 22.
In February, Frontier announced direct travel to Tampa, Florida, from Charlotte, with service starting in May. Frontier continued its expansion at CLT with nonstop flights to Boston, Miami, and Cincinnati in the summer.
Last year, Frontier added flights to several U.S. and Caribbean destinations, including New York/LaGuardia, Houston-Bush, Dallas-Fort Worth, Chicago O’Hare, Baltimore-Washington, Buffalo, New York, and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The Denver-based airline came to CLT in 2014.
