Have leftover Halloween candy? These Charlotte organizations will take your treats
Kids might think there’s no such thing as too much Halloween candy, but parents -- and dentists -- might say otherwise.
If you don’t want your children to fill up on sweets, or want to avoid the inevitable sugar rush they get from eating excessive amounts of candy, you can give some of it away for a good cause. And make a little cash, too.
Here are a couple of places in Charlotte to donate leftover Halloween candy.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools
Candy donations for CMS students can be dropped off at The Atrium, 4421 Stuart Andrew Blvd., a spokesperson for CMS told The Charlotte Observer in an email. A collection box will be located at the entrance facing Pressley Road. Donations will be accepted until Nov. 7.
Parents can also ask their child’s school if they are accepting candy donations, CMS said.
Dental Wellness of Charlotte
Dental Wellness of Charlotte, 9915 Sandy Rock Pl., is hosting a Halloween candy buyback program from Nov. 1-7, according to their Facebook page.
Participants can receive up to $1 per pound of candy donated to be distributed to a local charity.
Its office is open from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and from 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Fridays.
Hull & Coleman Orthodontics
Hull & Coleman Orthodontics is also hosting a Halloween candy buyback program to benefit local charities, according to their Facebook page.
You can sell candy up to five pounds of candy at $2 per pound. All candies will be donated to Bright Blessings, a volunteer organization that provides services for homeless children. One dollar will also be donated to Loaves & Fishes/Friendship Trays, a nonprofit that provides groceries and meals to needy families.
Candy will be collected at its 7800 Providence Road and 5941 Weddington Rd. locations on Nov. 1-2 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
