What percentage of Charlotte area households earn more than $200K? See the data

A village in Union County has the highest percentage of households earning more than $200,000 per year, according to five-year estimates from the latest American Community Survey released by the U.S. Census Bureau.

In Marvin, 54% of households earned more than $200,000 per year from 2016-2021. The survey also found that 13% of households that earned between $150,000-$200,000, and 5.1% earned between $125,000-$150,000.

In North Carolina, 7.4% of households earned more than $200,000 during the same five-year period.

Marvin has a population of 6,358 and a median household income of $221,350, with just 3% of its population living below the poverty line, according to 2020 census data.

Davidson, in northern Mecklenburg County, and Weddington, in western Union County, tied for the second-highest percentage of high earners, with 37% of households earning north of $200,000 in both towns.

The median household income in both towns was also well over six figures, with Weddington at $152,377 and Davidson at $141,845, according to census data.

In Charlotte, 10.6% of households earned more than $200,000, according to the survey.

The 28207 ZIP code in Charlotte, which encompasses much of Myers Park, featured the highest percentage of households that earn more than $200,000 in the city at 49%, according to census data.

The median household income in the area is $192,500.

Here are the 25 largest cities and towns in the Charlotte metropolitan area ranked by the highest percentage of households earning more than $200,000 per year, according to the American Community Survey:

  3. Tega Cay: 23.6%

  4. Waxhaw: 23.4%

  5. Cornelius: 20.8%

  6. Huntersville: 18.3%

  7. Fort Mill: 17.2%

  8. Harrisburg: 15.6%

  9. Stallings: 14.2%

  10. Belmont: 12.6%

  11. Indian Trail: 10.9%

  12. Matthews: 10.9%

  13. Charlotte: 10.6%

  14. Concord: 10.2%

  15. Mint Hill: 9.3%

  16. Mooresville: 7.5%

  17. Mount Holly: 6.8%

  18. Salisbury: 5.1%

  19. Rock Hill: 4.5%

  20. Kannapolis: 4.5%

  21. Monroe: 4.2%

  22. Gastonia: 3.8%

  23. Statesville: 2.7%

  24. Kings Mountain: 2.2%

  25. Lincolnton: 0.8%
