Charlotte pizzeria had moldy sauce, ‘large amount’ of dust buildup at inspection
A north Charlotte pizza restaurant received a “B” grade from the Mecklenburg County Health Department for numerous health violations, including the presence of mold and lack of refrigeration.
▪ Little Caesars, 228 Eastway Dr., received a score of 82.5 during its March 4 inspection.
Health department inspectors cited the restaurant after finding “cheese sauce with mold on it,” documents show.
The restaurant was also dinged after inspectors saw a fan with a “large amount of dust buildup” blowing directly on the pizza-making station, according to county documents.
Other violations the restaurant was cited for include:
Food stored above required temperatures
Employees preparing food with watches on
Shelves and racks with large amounts of dust and debris buildup
An old mattress and other litter around the dumpster area
According to county documents, the facility voluntarily closed and will not be able to reopen until the health department verifies that the restaurant’s walk-in cooler and prep unit can hold foods at 41 degrees or below.
This is the restaurant’s second “B” grade. Its first “B” was in July.
According to state law, permits are immediately revoked if a restaurant receives a score of less than 70 percent.
The Charlotte Observer reached out to the restaurant for comment regarding its score prior to publication but did not receive a response to a message.
