Woman walking on a busy Lake Norman road hit, killed by driver, trooper says

A 27-year-old woman from North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, was hit and killed by a driver while walking on a busy Lake Norman road Friday night, a State Highway Patrol trooper said.

Madison Palmer was pronounced dead at the scene, Trooper Jake Macchia said.

A 20-year-old SUV driver from Kannapolis hit Palmer around 8:50 p.m. on eastbound N.C. 150 near Emerald Isle Drive in Terrell, Macchia said in a news release. The driver wasn’t hurt, he said.

Troopers didn’t say whether they know why Palmer was in the road, but said she “was possibly impaired at the time,” according to the news release.

No charges have been filed, Macchia said.

N.C. 150, a busy east-west route, was closed for several hours after the crash.
