A plan by a Charlotte historic Black university to stabilize a century-old church has changed, with only portions of the structure now being preserved.

Mount Carmel Baptist Church, located just steps from the Johnson C. Smith University main campus, has been long identified as a building worth saving for sentimental and historic reasons. The building even earned local history landmark status in 1983.

State inspectors confirmed what some residents’ families already suspected: Caregivers endangered residents at a nursing home located in a predominantly Black Charlotte neighborhood.

At least two residents the Hunter Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center were hospitalized this year after staff failed to detect serious health problems, state inspection report shows.

Charlotte’s first social district is coming.

The Charlotte City Council approved the new Plaza Midwood social district last night. It will be a defined area, permitted by the city, within which people can carry alcoholic beverages in public.

4. New fast-casual spot featuring turkey legs and daiquiris to debut in north Charlotte

Turkey legs and... daiquiris?

That’s the concept of a new fast-casual spot coming to Charlotte next month. Jive Turkey Hut will take over the space formerly home to Bodrick’s Bar-B-Q which closed in 2015.
