Which candidate do you agree with most? Find your 2020 Democrat with these quizzes
Democratic primary voters who haven’t landed on a candidate of choice have no shortage of places to learn details of 2020 hopefuls’ positions — including campaign websites, televised debates and more.
But one way to sift through that information can be easier (and more fun) than others: Quizzes that match voters to candidates based on questions that suss out where they agree and disagree on policy positions.
The Washington Post has created a 20-question quiz that covers issues ranging from abortion and gun control to marijuana, taxes and health care. After each question is answered, the quiz shows which candidates agree with you on the issue.
The Post acknowledges that “policy stances are just one reason to pick a candidate. But if you haven’t been paying close attention to the campaign yet (and even if you have), this quiz can help clarify: What do you think? And which Democrats — if any — agree with you?”
The New York Times developed a quiz of its own, which asks 10 yes-or-no questions. That quiz includes “the eight most viable contenders,” according to the Times: Former Vice President Joe Biden; Sens. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota; former mayors Pete Buttigieg of South Bend, Indiana, and Michael Bloomberg of New York City; and businessmen Andrew Yang and Tom Steyer.
At the end of the Times quiz, the results reveal how many of the 10 questions you agree with each candidate on — ranking each candidate from those you align with most to least.
Unhappy with your test results? Another option for finding a candidate is looking through differences position by position.
A guide from Politico shows the views of the remaining candidates in the 2020 race, including on topics such as cybersecurity, criminal justice, education, climate change, immigration, trade and agriculture.
NPR compiled articles late last year comparing each of the major candidates’ stances in top issue areas, from the Electoral College to the proposed Green New Deal. Rolling Stone has published a fairly comprehensive round-up on candidates’ policy positions as well.
Following the messy Iowa caucus on Monday — which left the winner of the first contest of 2020 unclear — the next voting will be New Hampshire’s primary on Tuesday.
