McDonald’s is giving away fries on National French Fry Day. Here’s how to get them
McDonald’s is celebrating National French Fry Day with a freebie fans can sink their teeth into.
The national burger chain will offer fans a free order of large french fries via the McDonald’s app on Wednesday, July 13, according to a news release.
The one-time offer is available only in the mobile app, but no purchase is necessary.
To get the deal, customers must be members of the MyMcDonald’s rewards program. Fans are automatically opted in when they register on the app, a company spokesperson told McClatchy News.
Executives say the digital programs help restaurant owners get an idea of customers’ ordering habits and to offer them customized deals, CNN reported.
“We’re also seeing more frequent visits from loyalty customers, many of whom were very loyal to begin with,” Kevin Ozan, chief financial officer for McDonald’s, said in a recent earnings call, the news outlet reported. “Some of our largest markets have seen record customer visit frequency driven by loyalty usage coupled with app exclusive promotions.”
McDonald’s french fries were among the chain’s original menu offerings when its first restaurant opened in 1955, according the company’s history. McDonald’s went on to patent the french fry scoop in the 1960s, with workers still using the tool to bag just the right amount of fries at restaurants today.
Rival burger chain Wendy’s is also treating its loyalty members to free fries this week on specific mobile orders every day through July 15, according to a news release. On Wednesday, customers can receive a free order of any size fry with any mobile purchase.
