Crossword spells out unbelievable lottery win for SC mom. ‘I’ve never won anything big’
A mom in South Carolina was skeptical when her crossword ticket spelled out a big lottery win.
“I’d never won anything big before,” The Lowcountry woman told lottery officials in a Dec. 15 news release.
The mom racked up 11 words for a win on a lucky $3 Lady Jumbo Bucks Crossword ticket she bought from Big T’s in Goose Creek, according to lottery officials.
It was worth $100,000.
“I wasn’t sure if I actually won,” she told lottery officials — so she asked her son and her sister-in-law to double-check the ticket. Sure enough, it was the real deal.
The odds of winning the top $100,000 prize in the Lady Jumbo Bucks game are one in 600,000, according to the South Carolina Education Lottery.
The woman said she bought herself a new car and donated some of the winnings to her church and charity.
The store that sold the lucky ticket got a $1,000 bonus.
Goose Creek is about 20 miles northwest of Charleston.
