A plurality of Americans agree with the guilty verdict reached in the hush money trial of former President Donald Trump, new polling reveals.

In the latest ABC News/Ipsos poll, 50% of respondents said the verdict — which found Trump guilty of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records — was correct.

The poll, conducted from May 31 to June 1, sampled 781 U.S. adults, and has a margin of error of 3.7 percentage points.

More than a quarter of respondents, 27%, said the verdict was incorrect, and 23% said they weren’t sure.

A plurality of respondents, 49%, also said that Trump, the presumptive GOP nominee for president, should suspend his campaign in response to the verdict.

More than one-third, 37%, said he should continue his bid for the presidency, while 14% said they weren’t sure.

The results largely broke down along partisan lines, with 79% of Democrats saying he should throw in the towel and only 16% of Republicans saying the same.

A majority of independents, 52%, said he should suspend his campaign.

These results are relatively unchanged from the findings of a similar poll conducted in April 2023, “suggesting the verdict has prompted little change of opinion.”

Additionally, 55% of respondents said they were following the trial “somewhat or very closely,” the poll found.

The poll comes as Trump has vowed to appeal the verdict, which he said was the result of a “witch hunt” perpetrated by President Joe Biden’s administration, according to ABC News.

“The real verdict is going to be (the general election on) November 5 by the people,” Trump said.

“It’s reckless, it’s dangerous, it’s irresponsible for anyone to say this was rigged just because they don’t like the verdict,” Biden said in response to Trump’s claims, according to the Associated Press. “Our justice system has endured for nearly 250 years, and it literally is the cornerstone of America.”

Trump’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 11, several days before the Republican National Convention, per the outlet.
