A 20-year-old from Kansas died while skiing in Colorado after he crashed into a tree, officials said.

Other skiers rushed to help and gave him CPR until ski patrol arrived and took over, the Fraser Winter Park Police Department said on Facebook.

It happened just before 11 a.m. on March 18 at the Winter Park Resort, the department said. Ski patrol took the skier to a medical center at the base of the resort, where he was pronounced dead.

The skier was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, the department said. Officials have not released the skier’s name.

“We join Winter Park Resort in extending our deepest and heartfelt condolences to the man’s family and friends during this extremely difficult time,” officials said.

Winter Park is about a 65-mile drive northwest from Denver.
