Falling boulder kills 7-year-old girl at Lake Tahoe ski resort, Nevada officials say

A 7-year-old girl struck by a falling boulder died at an Incline Village ski resort near Lake Tahoe, Nevada officials and news outlets reported.

The child died in a “non-skiing accident” at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 29, the Diamond Peak Ski Resort said in a statement.

A falling boulder struck the girl, causing blunt force injuries to her neck and chest, the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office told the Reno Gazette-Journal.

The Diamond Peak Ski Patrol provided first aid while emergency teams were en route, but the girl died of her injuries, the resort said.

The medical examiner’s office identified her as Adelyn Grimes, of Reno, KOVR reported.

“There was no foul play involved and the sheriff’s office extends our deepest condolences to all involved,” the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement to KCRA.

“We would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of the child involved, to the members of the Sugar Bowl race team, and to the entire Lake Tahoe ski racing community, all of whom have been profoundly saddened by the accident,” the resort said.

Incline Village is on the northeast shore of Lake Tahoe, which is about a 120-mile drive northeast from Sacramento.
