17-year-old dropped off at boyfriend’s is found dead weeks later, MI cops say
A 17-year-old girl missing for weeks was found dead miles away from where she had been dropped off, Michigan authorities say.
The Inkster Police Department said family members were unable to get in contact with London Thomas after she was dropped off at an Inkster home April 5.
She had been driven to her boyfriend’s house, which was later searched multiple times by the Detroit Police Department and FBI officials, according to WDIV.
Family members reported Thomas missing when her phone pinged in a different area, according to WWJ.
Jasma Bennett called her daughter’s disappearance “strange” because she never went a day without talking to her sisters, WXYZ reported.
The body of Thomas was discovered April 26 in Southfield, about a 15-mile drive north of Inkster, Michigan State Police said in a news release a day later.
Thomas was weeks away from turning 18, according to Bennett, who described her daughter as “an outspoken teen with a soft heart (and) a love for music and hair,” WXYZ reported.
Troopers said two suspects “who are believed to be involved in her disappearance” were taken into custody. It’s unclear if the teen’s boyfriend is among the arrested suspects.
Charges had not been filed as of April 27.
“While a majority of the investigation has been completed by DPD and the FBI, there is still work to do,” state police spokesperson Mike Shaw said in a statement. “Our number one goal is to bring justice for London and her family. In order to accomplish this goal, we will not be releasing any further information on this investigation at this time.”
Inkster and Southfield are suburbs of Detroit.
