‘Loving and selfless’ 81-year-old woman killed in hit-and-run, Nevada police say
The family of an 81-year-old woman killed in a hit-and-run in Nevada is asking for help finding the driver responsible.
When Joe and Margaret Brown lost their sister to COVID-19, Joe Brown convinced Margaret Brown, affectionately referred to as Peggy, to move to Las Vegas in January.
“We wanted her close where we could watch out for her,” Joe Brown said at a July 9 news conference.
However, just six months later, Margaret Brown was killed while crossing a street.
It happened just before 10 p.m. June 13, when a 2016-2019 dark-colored Nissan Sentra struck Margaret Brown in an intersection, according to a June 17 news release from police.
“Peggy did everything right that night. She walked in a marked crosswalk at the appropriate time, but somehow lost her life at the hands of a driver who cowardly fled the scene,” Lieutenant Cody Fulwiler, with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, said.
Margaret Brown died from her injuries on June 16, police said.
“We are devastated that somebody hurt her and left her in the road and didn’t help her,” Tina Brown, who is married to Margaret Brown’s nephew, said.
Fulwiler said while investigating the case police got to learn how “loving and selfless” Margaret Brown was.
Now, her family and friends have a message for the person responsible for her death.
“Turn yourself in. The longer this case is open, the worse it’s gonna get for you and your family. Eventually, they will find you,” Greg Yankovsky, a friend of Margaret Brown, said.
