Brothers were burying a dead pet when a neighbor came outside and shot one of them, Texas police told news outlets.

Officers responded to the shooting at about 12:30 a.m. Thursday, July 17, in a southeast Houston neighborhood, KHOU reported.

A man and his younger brother were burying a pet guinea pig in their backyard and a neighbor opened fire, hitting the man in the torso, police told KPRC.

Police said the man was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive, according to KHOU.

It’s unclear what motivated the shooting, but police say there was a dispute between the man and the neighbor, KRIV reported.

Officers surrounded a nearby home and ordered everyone inside to come out, police told KPRC, adding that the situation was resolved peacefully.
